If you’re looking for a new RV, you may have already had several people tell you to carefully consider your camping plans to help inform the kind of RV you’ll need. But….what exactly are those camping plans again? If you’ve never been RV camping, you may not have a whole lot to go off of in ways of camping plans. Or, maybe you have your RV, and now need a way to get started with planning your trip. Read on for some handy first RV trip planning tips.
Book the Campground Stay
Planning ahead is a crucial part of RVing. Even if it’s just a general outline, you’ll want to make sure you know where you’ll end up every night so you can make reservations with campgrounds in the area. This is especially important for travelers with larger rigs, like fifth wheels and motorhomes, as some campgrounds don’t offer sites big enough to accommodate your RV.
Plan the Route
You’ll also want to travel on roads you’re comfortable with. You’ll be carrying extra weight, so choose a route you know you can handle. If this is your first time, you may want to consider interstates for their direct paths.
Once you’re a little more confident behind the wheel, you may be more interested in touring parts of the country you’ve never seen before by taking scenic routes.
As an added bonus, you can use your route to discover new attractions you would otherwise pass up. Just make sure you’ll have a place to put your RV when you get there.
Pack Wisely
While packing efficiently is important for any trip, that doesn’t mean sacrificing everything you won’t use every day. RVs come with plenty of storage so make sure you’re more than sufficiently prepared for any possible scenario. Bring the rain gear, the extra blankets, and extra activities to entertain you. You may not use it every day, but they’ll help you make the most of every day, no matter what happens.
This is especially true for RVers who will be far from civilization and won’t be able to easily run to the store for additional supplies.
